Dear Ms. / Mrs. Orlova, Thank you for your review. As mentioned in our welcome letter, the goal of a short first orthodontic consultation is just twofold. The first objective is to check whether orthodontic treatment is functionally necessary, i.e. for the long term health or stability of the dentition, or not, as indeed every human being can live very long and happily with a slightly imperfect occlusion; we completely agree with you on that! We are sorry we had to inform you that we were confronted with rather the opposite of that and that we do not have the competency to treat this w/o an operation. Indeed there are many ways to Rome, also in orthodontics, but we are sure that most, if not all, colleague-certified orthodontists in the Netherlands agree with us in this situation, unfortunately. If treatments appears to be functionally necessary, the second goal of a first consultation rises at the horizon: if already possible it is discussed whether some possible options are fitting patient and patient's life. As surgery appeared no option for the patient involved, which we can understand completely as it is rather invasive, we even checked by taking specific X-rays, which is not common at a first short consultation, whether treatment w/o surgery might be an option. Unfortunately, that appeared not to be the case, resulting in the difficult combination of a necessity for treatment and no applicable treatment options. Therefore, the outcome of the consultation was not to perform a more thorough examinaton, as we of course never force anyone into surgery, contrasting to what you write in this review. As a result, treatment will not be performed in our office, which is completely fine with us; it should fit and sometimes it does not. For all reasons mentioned above we just adviced you, as it is a rather difficult situation, to go to another certified orthodontist instead of a 'tandarts voor orthodontie' because of the severeness of the situation. It all was just humble and honest advices we gave you to the benefit of the patient involved, but obviously that came across quite differently to you or was contrasting your hopes or expectations. In short, we are sorry it all felt that bad for you, but please don't shoot the messenger, especially not in public / online.
